silent, boring clock May 16, 2012
By bandazar I got this clock after getting a seiko "silent sweep" clock that apparently turned out to be not so silent. So instead, I decided to get a clock from a manufacturer that I knew produced very quiet clocks. This clock is definitely silent.. Or at least it was for a while. But after a few months it is now rattling a little, just like every other "silent" clock that I've gotten in the past couple of months. I opened it up, oiled up the gears, and now it is silent (using instructions from the web). No, this method is not for the faint of heart because there are 10 screws, velcro at the bottom, and you need a special screwdriver to do it, but it is possible. The alarm is the ascending beep type of alarm and the snooze button does produce a white led light at the top left of the clock illuminating the face. There are a few things that I wish could be improved with this clock. For example, the clock face is impossible to see at night without hitting the snooze button since it is so deep inset of the face. I did manage to open it up and put glow in the dark stickers on it. I think the look has improved a bit. And hopefully allow me to tell the time without hitting the snooze button (which makes the clock emit a white led light). The bottom velvet part is glued on.. so you have to be careful about taking it apart. But luckily, the sticky substance is not brittle glue so you can put it back on as if it was new. Also a nice feature would be if this clock had a bigger face (I'm nearsighted), and ran on C batteries.. But these are minor quibbles. As of yet, I still have not found a clock that satisfies every requirement that I want in an alarm clock. Which is kind of frustrating. If you're into different styles of this type of clock, there is a seller on ebay that sells alarm clocks that have similar dimensions - but with slightly different designs, with I suspect the same motor and manufacturer as this one. But they are a little more expensive too.
